Zenair Floats, manufactured by Can-Zac Aviation Ltd.

Enjoy the thrills and freedom of FLOAT FLYING with our light-weight and affordable all-metal Zenair Floats™!

Originally designed by Chris Heintz (of Zenair fame), these time-test floats were specifically conceived for use on light kitplanes and ultralights.  While exclusively manufactured in Europe for over a decade, the production of Zenair Floats is returning to North America in 2007. Can-Zac Aviation Ltd. of Kitchener, Ontario, will be responsible for manufacturing and marketing the entire product line. Float flyers can now expect faster service, lower shipping costs, and the use of standard North American hardware throughout. The superior design of the well-known Zenair Float has just gotten better!

Going fishing? Visiting the cottage? Touring the lakes? ...or just getting away from it all for a weekend of peace and quiet

A floatplane is the definitive way to bring FUN back to recreational flying. Float flying adds a completely new perspective to aviation - with exciting new challenges and peaceful, quiet interludes on the water.

With Zenair Floats, converting your existing land sport plane to a seaplane is surprisingly easy and affordable. Available in a wide range of sizes, there is almost certainly a set of Zenair-designed floats for your aircraft.

Zenair Floats

Can-Zac’s exclusive AMPHIBIOUS FLOATS bring you the BEST OF BOTH WORLDS! Fly from both land and water with fully amphibious floats...

Zenair Floats are produced using proven design techniques with modern aviation aluminum alloys that are durable and corrosion resistant. The respected Heintz-designed floats have been installed on dozens of different kit and ultralight planes and are in use around the world.

The durable lightweight floats are amongst the lightest in the industry (see chart below) with amazing strength and a sleek aerodynamic design that minimizes drag. In fact, our straight floats aerodynamically carry their own weight in flight without reducing the useful load of the aircraft. The conventional float design incorporates a hydrodynamic ‘step’ that allows separation from the water in a remarkably short distance; take-offs typically occur in just a few hundred feet!

(Of course, performance depends on the aircraft type, installed powerplant, weight, propeller pitch, and so on).

Zenair-designed floats have proven themselves highly effective on dozens of different homebuilts, ultralights and even factory-built aircraft (with a one-time STC). The floats, whether standard or amphibious are now available from Can-Zac Aviation, ready to install.

Zenair Floats are the lightest available on the market – this fact alone helps minimize performance loss when adding floats to your aircraft. Our floats feature individual compartments separated by full-size bulkheads, a rugged custom extruded aluminum keel, and a ‘walkway’ stiffener along the top. Quality marine adhesive sealant makes the floats exceptionally watertight, and the conventional sheet metal construction is easy to repair. If a float is ever damaged, simply apply a patch to seal the damaged area. Additional corrosion protection can be added when operating the floats in salt water.

The full line of floats accommodates aircraft from 550lbs – 2100lb. Can-Zac Aviation will initially be focusing on providing the 950lb and 1150lb floats which accommodate the Zenith STOL 701 kit and the HD/UL versions of the Zodiac CH 601 series of kitplanes.

The Zodiac XL (and similar aircraft) will benefit from the 1350lb floats specifically designed to match aircraft registered in the LSA category. This float size is designed to accommodate gross weights between 1215 and 1485 lbs.

The 950 and 1150 series floats will be available in straight float configuration and amphibious designs, in both 3-wheel and 4-wheel configuration. The 1350 series will be available as straight floats by mid–summer 2007 as well as in the 4-wheel configuration for the Zodiac XL and other designs of similar gross weights.

The Sky’s No Longer The Limit!

Can-Zac Aviation Ltd. makes it easy and affordable to convert your land-based plane to a real amphibious aircraft. The unique tricycle retractable gear is best for rough field operations while the 4-wheel version is right at home on your local airport.

The 3-wheeled AMPHIBIOUS FLOATS feature two large Matco wheels that are hydraulically retracted inside wheel wells. The center nose wheel is hinged and folds back for clearance from the water when retracted. A hand pump located in the cabin, with an optional 12V system (available later this year), hydraulically operates all three wheels. This unique tricycle AMPHIBIOUS FLOATS system is highly effective, offering stability and excellent maneuverability even on rougher grass fields and shoreline.

The 4-wheeled version AMPHIBIOUS FLOATS allow the aircraft to be mounted higher off the ground than with the original 3-wheeled version. The hydraulically retracted nose wheels are self-centering castering wheels. This provides for smooth operation at any airport.

Can-Zac Aviation provides airfoil-style struts to attach all Zenair Float sizes and configurations to the plane of your choice.
