Zenith’s Sporty CH 601 XL – An Ultralight?
It is now! Chris Heintz, the noted designer of the Zenair series of airplanes has allowed his newest version of the successful Zodiac line the 601XL to be registered as an Advanced Ultralight in Canada. With this change, the sporty Zenith Zodiac CH 601 XL is poised to fly right into the ultra-light market.
Previously the XL could only be registered in Canada in the “Amateur Built” category which required that the owner manufacture their own airplane. As the newest and fastest of the 601 series of 2-seat, low-wing airplane kits designed by the Canadian designer, the XL has been added to the Transport Canada list of aircraft approved for registration as an Advanced Ultra-Light Airplane. This means that you are now capable of flying the newest edition of this great cross country cruiser with an AULA permit. Plus, with the new 2-seat rating you can bring a friend along for the adventure. The newest Zodiac features:
