Recreational Aircraft Association's
persistence pays off big for Zodiac Owners in Canada!
Throughout the years many things get lax or forgotten, which in this industry
can prove to be either costly or dangerous, (oftentimes both) to owners of
aircraft. The Recreational Aircraft Association - under the direction of Gary
Wolf has been persistent in making sure that the Transport Canada website shows
the proper weights for the ultralight registration of the CH600 and CH601 series
of planes among many others that are incorrect or not confirmed on the website. The old information stated that the previous versions of Zodiacs
could not be flown over the gross of 1058 or 1056 even though many were
registered at the designers stated gross of 1232. It was through the persistence of RAA
President Gary Wolf that Transport Canada was able to confirm the designers
stated gross weights for the models in question and then properly post them to
the website. With the proper information in place the owners of older Zodiacs are now
legal to fly at the designers stated weight and re-sale of these planes will not
run the risk of being grounded due to the long red ribbon sometimes associated
with government dealings.
If your planning on building any type of plane we strongly suggest that you
become a member of this organization. They not only have a top notch magazine
but they are also the people in the trenches fighting for your rights and safety
with Transport Canada. On a chapter level you will always meet other builders like
yourself and if this is your first plane it is always great to have someone close to
you that has been there and done that. Furthermore, in many RAA chapters
across Canada you
will have access to tools that you may only need to use once and it makes little
sense to go out and buy them. Especially when it comes to weight and balance
time, the RAA has a W & B scale program that is more then worthy of being a
member for many years! This is the Canadian body looking out for your concerns
as a Canadian Aviator, try your best to support them, it is a resource that is
catered to you!
How do we know all this? We are members of the RAA too!!
